Explaining the data
Here we have used data from the Office of National Statistics report ONS Poverty and Social Exclusion in the UK and EU, 2005-2011. They estimate that in 2011 5.1% of the population of the UK were experiencing severe material deprivation, this includes being unable to feed or clothe their families or buy necessities. The data relates to 2011 and is the most up-to-date research.
