Explaining the data
The figure on the cost calculation on inequality is made in the government commissioned report Michael Marmot et al (2010) Strategic Review of Health Post 2010 http://www.instituteofhealthequity.org/projects/fair-society-healthy-lives-the-marmot-review. The average salary of a nurse in 2011/2012 was £31,065 according to the Annual Survey of Hours and Earning. The cost of running a hospital is estimated at £150m per year, this is based on the cost of running Derby Hospital (a large NHS hospital) in 2012.
