Briefing 2: What’s a CEO Worth?

Explaining the data
To estimate executive pay we have used the Annual Survey of FTSE 100 CEO pay produced by MM&K and Manifest. ‘Biggest UK companies’ refers to FTSE 100 companies. The CEO hourly pay is based on the assumption that they work 12 hours a day seven days a week (£961.55 rounded up to £1000). These are the most up-to-date figures and relate to the financial year 2011-2012. We have then compared this with data published in the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings relating to 2012 and the figure we used relates to the median pay level.
