Explaining the data
We calculated an estimated minimum weekly basket of goods using readily available information on rent (a single room in Newham, one of London’s cheapest boroughs), bills, food shopping, and a weekly bus pass. Paying for these necessities leaves nothing for emergencies like a broken fridge or a trip to the dentist, let alone a social life.
